Total Solar Eclipse

    On April 8th, 2024, a powerful cosmic event will unfold across the sky of North America. A total solar eclipse will darken the path from Mexico to Newfoundland, with the moon entirely obscuring the sun for up to 4 minutes and 28 seconds at the point of greatest eclipse. With our discussions on astrology, I began to wonder what magical significance this celestial phenomenon carries. 

    In astrology, eclipses are seen as catalysts for change and major life events. A solar eclipse in particular has a disruptive yet purifying energy. The moon temporarily "overpowering" the sun represents a realignment and reset of the cosmos. The 2024 eclipse occurs at 18° Aries, the first sign of the zodiac associated with new beginnings, impulsivity, and individual identity. 

The Path of the 2024 Solar Eclipse

    For practitioners of magic, a total solar eclipse bears tremendous significance as a powerful portal for ritual work. As the sun's light is blocked, it is believed that a temporary thinning occurs between the veil separating our physical realm and the world of spirit. This window offers opportunities involving fresh starts and purging the old.

    This total solar eclipse holds particularly personal significance for me, as my 22nd birthday falls on April 9th, just one day after the eclipse. According to astrological interpretations, "if an eclipse falls on your birthday, or within five days of your birthday, the year that follows that particular birthday will be a critical one for you.     Additionally, the numerological symbolism surrounding my upcoming 22nd year amplifies this sense of pivotal transition. This resonates as I'll be graduating college and embarking on the next phase of my journey, a mere 33 days after the eclipse, on May 11th (all angle numbers as well). Perhaps this eclipse unfolding at such a pivotal point holds great magical significance. Perhaps this is my rebirth as a witch? To be continued…
